MUMBAI: The city of Mumbai is buzzing with excitement as preparations for the grand Ganeshotsav are in full swing. One of the most anticipated events of the year, the arrival of Lord Ganesha, will see devotees thronging the streets and temples across the city. However, the star of the show remains Lalbaugcha Raja, the iconic Ganesha idol, which draws visitors from across the country and even abroad.
As Mumbai gears up to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi from September 7 to September 17, 2024, the spotlight is on the Lalbaugcha Raja idol, famous for its grandeur and spiritual significance. This year, the Raja of Lalbagh will be adorned with a magnificent 20 kg crown worth ₹16 crore, donated by the Reliance Foundation. The crown, studded with precious emeralds and intricate meenakari work, has a six-foot circumference and is set to be a major attraction for devotees and tourists alike.
Devotees can line up for darshan in two different queues—Mukha Darshan (viewing the face) and Navas Darshan (touching the feet). However, those seeking Navas Darshan are often required to wait several hours due to the massive crowds. The line-up begins early in the morning, and darshan continues late into the night. Many celebrities, industrialists, and political leaders also visit the Lalbaugcha Raja during this period.
The arrival of Ganaraya is marked by the beating of drums, cymbals, and an electric atmosphere across the city. Tall Ganesha idols and elaborate decorations are the highlights of the festival. The enthusiasm surrounding the festival has always been palpable, and this year is no different.
For those who cannot visit in person, the mandal has arranged for live streaming on its official website and social media channels, including YouTube and Facebook.
