Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat’s Appeal: ‘Being Weak is a Crime’
Nagpur, October 2024 – In a powerful address at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) annual Vijayadashami (Dussehra) gathering in Nagpur, Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat made an impassioned appeal to Hindus, urging them to stay united and strong. The occasion marked an important moment as the RSS entered its 100th year of establishment. Bhagwat stressed the importance of national character and unity, noting that “being weak is a crime” and encouraging Hindus worldwide to stand firm against any oppression or injustice.
During his speech, Bhagwat highlighted the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh and warned that such atrocities require a united and strong Hindu society for protection. He pointed out the global and regional challenges facing India, including the discussions in Bangladesh and Pakistan to hinder India’s growth. He emphasized that India’s strength lies in its unity and urged the Hindu community to remain vigilant.
RSS Chief’s Message on Hindu Unity
The event, held at the Sangh headquarters in Resham Bagh, Nagpur, witnessed a large gathering of prominent leaders, including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and former ISRO chief K Sivan. Padma Bhushan and former ISRO Chief K. Radhakrishnan graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Addressing the audience, Bhagwat reaffirmed the RSS’s commitment to building a strong and united Hindu society. “If a nation wants to be strong, its citizens must have character,” he said. Bhagwat explained that the strength of a nation lies in its collective national character, and Hindus must embrace this philosophy to face global challenges.
Persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh
A significant portion of Bhagwat’s speech focused on the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. He detailed the violent coup in Bangladesh and the atrocities committed against the Hindu community. Bhagwat praised the Hindus who organized themselves to resist the oppression but expressed concern over the fundamentalist forces that continue to threaten minority communities, including Hindus.
“Though they fought back, the situation remains fragile as long as this extremist mindset prevails,” Bhagwat remarked. He called on the Indian government and the global Hindu community to support the Hindus in Bangladesh.
Global Threats and Bangladesh-Pakistan Alliance
Bhagwat also touched on the growing alliance between Bangladesh and Pakistan, citing reports of discussions in Bangladesh that paint India as a threat. “They say that together with Pakistan, they can stop India’s rise. These discussions are happening even when India helped in the creation of Bangladesh,” he said, expressing concern over the influence of foreign nations that seek to prevent India’s growth.
His remarks underscore the broader geopolitical concerns that India faces, as hostile forces attempt to stifle the nation’s progress on the global stage.
Key Leaders Attend Shastrapujan Ceremony
The RSS’s traditional Shastrapujan ceremony, performed by Mohan Bhagwat, symbolized the commitment of the organization to safeguarding India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The presence of high-profile dignitaries such as Nitin Gadkari and Devendra Fadnavis added weight to the event. K. Radhakrishnan, the former ISRO chief, delivered a keynote address, praising the Sangh for its contributions to India’s national unity.
This year’s Dussehra gathering was especially significant as it marked the centenary of the RSS, a milestone in the organization’s history. With India facing numerous internal and external challenges, Bhagwat’s appeal for Hindu unity and strength resonated with the audience.
Bhagwat’s message, delivered at a crucial moment in India’s history, called on Hindus to not just stand together but to embrace strength and resilience in the face of global challenges. His appeal to maintain unity while avoiding tyranny reflects the delicate balance needed to foster a strong and harmonious society.
