Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat Inaugurates Disability Camp, Highlights the Role of Service in Nation-Building and Community Trust

Pune, Wagholi, December 16 – The progress of a nation is rooted in the development of its citizens, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief, Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, during the inauguration of a state-level disability camp. Held at the Dhole Patil Education Society in Wagholi, Pune, the event marked the silver jubilee year celebration of the Bharat Vikas Parished Vikalang Kendra.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhagwat emphasized that a country’s development extends beyond service alone; it involves empowering and nurturing its citizens through a spirit of selfless service. He remarked, “While a certain level of ego motivates an individual to work, true service arises from a higher, eternal inspiration. This sense of service, driven by grace and belonging, transcends individualism and fosters a connection to humanity as a whole.”

State-Level Disability Camp
The event featured a comprehensive state-level camp aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities. Approximately 1,200 disabled participants were assessed for modular prosthetic arms and legs. As a representative gesture, state-of-the-art modular limbs were presented to recipients, including Nita Dhekane, Shashikant Borse, Arjun Sonawane, Aniket Gadekar, Vaijnath Gorakh, and Nasir Shaikh.
Technical expert Sumit Bhaumik explained the innovative features of these modular prosthetics, which are designed to enhance mobility and independence.

Prominent attendees included Bharat Vikas Parishad leaders Datta Chitale (President), Rajendra Jog (Secretary), and Center Head Vinay Khatavkar. The event also honored organizations that have supported the Disability Center financially, including Maharashtra Natural Gas, Dhole Patil Education Society, Bridge Next, Rotary Club of Pune Heritage, Auto Hangar, and Vatsalya Trust.
Vinay Khatavkar was presented with the first-ever “Divyang Mitra” (Friend of the Disabled) award for his significant contributions.
Special Recognition for Disabled Soldiers
The event paid tribute to disabled soldiers who have brought honor to the nation through their resilience and achievements. Vijayakumar Karki, four-time gold medalist wheelchair basketball champion Meen Bahadur Thapa, and Aircraftman Mridul Ghosh were felicitated for their contributions, particularly in the field of Paralympic sports.

World Record Attempt
The Bharat Vikas Parishad announced its ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record by fitting 1,200 prosthetic legs in a single camp, surpassing the previous record of 710 artificial legs. The initiative is scheduled for completion in March 2025, with all necessary registrations already in place.
Building Trust Through Service
Dr. Bhagwat concluded his address by urging citizens to focus on the positives in society. “Although there is a perception that negativity is rampant, the truth is that there is 40 times more good happening in society. This positivity needs to be highlighted, as service fosters eternal trust and strengthens societal bonds,” he said.
The event was moderated by Rahul Solapurkar, with an introductory speech by Datta Chitale. A vote of thanks was delivered by Rajendra Jog, and Dr. Bhakti Datar presented a soulful rendition of a personal song to mark the occasion.
