Aarti made a significant impact at the World U20 Athletics Championships by clinching the bronze medal in the 10,000m race walk event, marking India’s first medal at the ongoing competition. Aarti’s extraordinary performance saw her clock a time of 44 minutes 39.39 seconds, breaking her previous national record of 47:21.04 set in March during the National Federation Cup U20 Championships in Lucknow.
The 17-year-old’s bronze medal-winning effort highlighted her growing prowess in the event, as she maintained her composure throughout the demanding race. Despite her remarkable performance, Aarti finished behind China’s Zhuoma Baima, who claimed gold with a time of 43:26.60, and Meiling Chen, who secured silver with a time of 44:30.67.
This achievement is a testament to Aarti’s dedication and hard work, as she continues to elevate her performance on the international stage. The World U20 Athletics Championships also saw other Indian athletes break national records, including the men’s 4x400m relay team and the women’s 4x400m relay team, both of whom set new U20 national records in their respective heats.
In another notable performance, Pooja Singh set a new U20 women’s national record in high jump by clearing 1.83m to qualify for the final round, which is set to take place on Saturday.
