Paris Paralympics 2024 : India’s campaign at the Paris Paralympics 2024 began on a high note as Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal clinched the country’s first medals in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle (SH1) event on Friday. Avani Lekhara, the reigning champion from Tokyo, successfully defended her gold medal, breaking her own Paralympic record with a score of 249.7. This surpasses her previous record of 249.6 set three years ago.

Mona Agarwal, participating in her maiden Paralympics, secured the bronze medal with an impressive performance, adding to India’s growing medal tally. With these achievements, India now has two medals on the second day of the Games, with more opportunities on the horizon.

Later in the day, India’s Manish Narwal will compete in the final of the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event, providing another chance for India to increase its medal haul.

In the qualifying round, Avani Lekhara shot a 625.8, finishing just behind Iryna Shchetnik, who set a new Paralympic Qualification Record with a score of 627.5. Mona Agarwal, a two-time World Cup gold medallist, scored 623.1, securing her place in the final and ultimately winning the bronze.
