BJP Wins Historic Third Term in Haryana, Defies Exit Polls and Dominates Congress

BJP Secures 48 Seats in Haryana Assembly Elections 2024, Congress Struggles With 37 Seats Amid Anti-Incumbency Wave

BJP Defies Exit Polls to Win Historic Third Term in Haryana

Haryana Election Results 2024:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made history by securing its third consecutive term in the Haryana Assembly elections, defying exit poll predictions of a closer contest. The BJP won 48 out of 90 seats, securing a decisive victory over the Congress, which managed only 37 seats. Despite facing a strong anti-incumbency wave after nine-and-a-half years in power, the BJP held onto its dominant position in the state.

With 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents and 101 women, in the fray, the elections were fiercely contested. However, the ruling BJP, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, emerged victorious, proving its political resilience in Haryana’s dynamic landscape.

BJP Defies Exit Poll Predictions

In a surprising turn of events, the BJP far exceeded exit poll projections, which had indicated a close contest between the BJP and Congress. Instead, the BJP secured a clear majority, solidifying its control over Haryana. This victory is especially historic as it marks the BJP’s third successive win in the state — a feat never before achieved in Haryana’s electoral history.

Despite the perception that Congress could gain momentum from anti-incumbency and public dissatisfaction, the party failed to rally sufficient support. The Congress, led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, fell short of expectations, even though it showed some signs of recovery compared to previous elections.

Final Tally in Haryana Assembly Polls 2024:

  • BJP: 48
  • Congress: 37
  • INLD: 02
  • Independent: 03

Results of Key Candidates

Among the key winners, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini secured his seat comfortably, while Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda also managed to retain his position. Independent candidate Savitri Jindal was another notable winner. However, several prominent figures faced losses, including INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala, Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta (BJP), and BJP leader O.P. Dhankar.

A high-profile win for Congress came from Vinesh Phogat, a popular wrestler, who won the Julana seat, defeating BJP’s Yogesh Kumar by 6,015 votes. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to make any impact, drawing a blank in the elections.

JP Nadda Hails BJP’s Triumph

BJP President JP Nadda hailed the party’s impressive performance, crediting the people of Haryana for rejecting Congress’s politics of casteism, nepotism, and dynastic rule. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Haryana has become a BJP stronghold.

“Haryana has voted for development, unity, and progress. The BJP is the party of the youth, farmers, Dalits, and women in Haryana, and this victory shows that the people have faith in our vision. We will continue to work for the betterment of Haryana with renewed focus and energy,” Nadda said in a statement.

Congress Advised to Reflect on Results

Following its defeat, political analysts have advised Congress to reflect on its performance, especially in a state where it was expected to perform better due to anti-incumbency. Despite a narrow seat difference, Congress failed to turn the tide in its favor, leaving room for introspection as the party looks ahead to the next electoral battle.

The BJP’s third-term victory in Haryana is not only a political triumph but also a reaffirmation of its dominance in India’s Hindi heartland.
