Counting of Votes Underway in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana: Results Expected by Afternoon

The highly anticipated vote counting for the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana Assembly Elections is set to begin today, with both states eager to know the results by the afternoon. Each Vidhan Sabha in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana comprises 90 seats, and the counting will take place under triple-layered security to ensure the smooth conduct of the process.

In Haryana, key electoral themes this year have been ‘Kisan, Jawan, and Pahalwan’, reflecting the state’s deep-rooted agricultural, military, and sports connections. While the BJP is looking for a third consecutive term, the Congress is hopeful for a shift in power, with its leaders confident of an upset. With 1,031 candidates vying for seats in Haryana, including 101 women, the voter turnout was recorded at a notable 67.90 percent.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 873 candidates entered the race for 90 assembly seats. A voter turnout of 63.45 percent was reported, slightly lower than the 2014 election. Post-poll surveys suggest that Jammu and Kashmir may witness a hung assembly, with the National Conference and Congress alliance predicted to secure a majority of the seats.

Both the states are at a crucial political juncture, with Haryana witnessing its first major face-off between BJP and Congress since the Lok Sabha elections. The results of today’s vote counting will significantly shape the political landscape of both regions, with the possibility of a clear picture emerging by this afternoon.

As the final results approach, political analysts and party leaders remain on edge, awaiting the outcome that could potentially redefine regional power dynamics in both states.
