Delhi Election Results 2025: Congress Gets Duck Again, Loses Deposits in 67 Seats

Congress Faces Another Electoral Whitewash in Delhi

New Delhi: The Congress party’s downward spiral in Delhi politics continues as it faces yet another humiliating defeat in the 2025 Assembly Elections. For the third consecutive time, the party has failed to win a single seat in the national capital, marking another electoral disaster. Out of the 70 seats it contested, Congress candidates lost their security deposits in a staggering 67 constituencies.

Congress’ Electoral Decline: A Hat-Trick of Zeros

Once a dominant force that ruled Delhi for 15 years under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit from 1998 to 2013, the Congress party has now been reduced to political irrelevance in the capital. This marks the third straight election where it has drawn a blank in the Delhi Assembly elections, following similar results in 2015 and 2020.

Seats Where Congress Managed to Save Deposits

Among the 70 seats contested, the Congress party could only retain its deposit in three constituencies:

  • Badli
  • Kasturba Nagar
  • Nangloi Jat

However, this marginal relief does little to salvage the party’s fortunes in Delhi, where it has been virtually wiped out since the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2013.

How Congress Performed in Previous Elections

This latest electoral debacle follows a pattern seen in previous elections:

  • 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections: Congress contested 66 seats, with 63 of its candidates losing their security deposits. The only candidates who managed to save their deposits were Arvinder Singh Lovely (Gandhi Nagar), Devender Yadav (Badli), and Abhishek Dutt (Kasturba Nagar).
  • 2015 Delhi Assembly Elections: The party fielded candidates in all 70 constituencies but failed to win any seat. A total of 62 candidates lost their deposits.

Key Reasons Behind Congress’ Downfall in Delhi

  1. Declining Voter Base: With the AAP and BJP dominating the political landscape, Congress has struggled to maintain relevance among Delhi’s electorate.
  2. Leadership Crisis: The party lacks a strong face in Delhi politics after the demise of Sheila Dikshit.
  3. Failure to Present a Strong Alternative: Congress has been unable to position itself as a credible alternative to AAP’s governance and BJP’s opposition.
  4. Internal Infighting: The party has been plagued by factionalism, with leaders often at odds over strategies and candidate selections.

Future Prospects for Congress in Delhi

With its influence in the capital at an all-time low, Congress faces an uphill battle to regain voter confidence. The party will need strong leadership, a clear vision, and an aggressive grassroots revival strategy if it hopes to challenge the dominance of AAP and BJP in future elections.

For now, Delhi remains a two-party battleground between Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leaving Congress struggling to find its footing in the political arena of the national capital.
