Haryana Exit Poll 2024: Congress Set to Return to Power, Major Blow to BJP

Exit Polls Suggest Congress Comeback After 10 Years in Power; BJP Faces a Tough Defeat in Haryana

As voting concluded today in Haryana for the 2024 Assembly Elections, various exit polls have started pouring in, with most pointing to a significant shift in the state’s political landscape. According to the latest exit polls, the Congress party is poised to make a strong comeback after 10 years of being out of power, delivering a major setback to the ruling BJP.

BJP Struggles Amid Anti-Incumbency

The exit polls reflect a tight race between BJP and Congress, with anti-incumbency appearing to have played a crucial role. BJP, which aimed for a third consecutive term, is projected to secure only 18-32 seats, falling short of the majority needed in the 90-seat Assembly. Meanwhile, the Congress, led by a wave of dissatisfaction with the ruling government, is expected to win between 49-62 seats, signaling a clear path to forming the next government.

Failed Alliances and Smaller Parties

Talks for a potential alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fell through ahead of the elections, leaving Congress to contest independently. The AAP’s presence did not make a significant impact, as smaller regional parties like the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) struggled to gain traction. JJP formed an alliance with Chandrasekhar Azad’s party, while INLD joined hands with Mayawati’s BSP. According to exit polls, both alliances are projected to secure a handful of seats.

Exit Poll Breakdown

Several exit polls provide varying seat projections for the major parties:

  • People’s Pulse Exit Poll: BJP 20-32 seats, Congress 49-61 seats, others 5-8 seats.
  • Dainik Bhaskar Exit Poll: BJP 15-29 seats, Congress 44-54 seats, others 4-9 seats.
  • Matrix Exit Poll: Congress 55-62 seats, BJP 18-24 seats, others 2-8 seats.
  • Dhruv Research Exit Poll: Congress 57 seats, BJP 27 seats, others 6 seats.
  • Republic India Exit Poll: Congress 55-62 seats, BJP 18-24 seats, others 2-5 seats.

Congress Eyes Comeback After 10 Years

The Congress party, which has remained out of power since 2014, is hoping to capitalize on widespread dissatisfaction with the BJP’s performance over the last two terms. In the 2019 elections, BJP faced a decline, losing seven seats, and was forced to form a coalition government with the JJP. Now, it seems Congress is on the verge of reclaiming power, as predicted by most exit polls.

The final results will be announced on October 8, but exit polls have already set the stage for a dramatic shift in Haryana’s political scene. All eyes are now on the counting day, with both parties bracing for the outcome.
