The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to move the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to ongoing unrest and violence in Bangladesh. The decision was influenced by concerns over safety and security, particularly after several participating countries issued travel advisories against visiting Bangladesh.
Despite the relocation, Bangladesh will still retain the hosting rights, which means they will receive the associated revenue. The tournament, originally scheduled to be held in Bangladesh, will now take place in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20, 2024. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed regret over the move but acknowledged that it was necessary given the circumstances. The ICC also thanked the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in as hosts on short notice.
