
Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – January 13, 2025: The much-anticipated Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the world’s largest religious congregation, has officially commenced at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The first royal bath (Shahi Snan) is being observed today on the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima, marking the beginning of a 45-day spiritual journey filled with devotion, cultural celebration, and grand rituals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes on this momentous occasion through his official social media handle. His tweet reads, “This is a very special day for millions of people who cherish Indian values and culture. Maha Kumbh is starting in Prayagraj. The Maha Kumbh Mela, a once-in-12-years event, has transformed Prayagraj into a vast spiritual city. Pilgrims from across India and abroad have gathered to partake in this sacred event. The festivities will continue until February 26, 2025, offering numerous royal baths, cultural displays, and religious ceremonies.
Schedule of Royal Baths A total of six royal baths are scheduled during the Maha Kumbh Mela:
- January 13, 2025 (Paush Purnima) – First Royal Bath (Shahi Snan)
- January 14, 2025 (Makar Sankranti) – Second Royal Bath (Shahi Snan)
- Four more royal baths are planned on significant dates to be observed by millions of pilgrims.
Unprecedented Security and AI Surveillance Ensuring the safety of the anticipated 40 crore devotees, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented extensive security measures:
- 45,000 police personnel are deployed across the city.
- More than 2,750 CCTV cameras equipped with AI technology monitor crowd movements.
- 268 AI-based video surveillance systems track crowd density, while 240 AI-powered systems facilitate traffic management and parking.
Massive Infrastructure and Devotee Facilities Temporary cities with modern amenities, sanitation facilities, and health camps have been set up to provide comfort to millions of visitors. Special arrangements for transportation, food distribution, and lost-and-found centers are also operational.
