Maharashtra High-Security Number Plates Now Mandatory for Pre-2019 Vehicles
The Maharashtra Transport Department has made it mandatory for all pre-2019 registered vehicles to install High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) by March 31, 2025. This initiative aims to prevent tampering, counterfeiting, and crimes associated with vehicle number plates, ensuring safer and more secure roads.
Mandatory Compliance by March 31, 2025
The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has urged all vehicle owners in the city, particularly those with vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, to comply with the HSRP mandate. Vehicles registered post-2019 already come equipped with these plates, as mandated by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in 2018.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosle confirmed that a private agency has been appointed to manage the installation process in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. An online portal is being developed to facilitate registration and streamline the installation process.
HSRP Costs and Specifications
The cost structure for HSRPs has been clearly outlined by the transport department:
- Two-Wheelers (Motorcycles, Scooters): ₹531
- Three-Wheelers (Auto-Rickshaws): ₹590
- Four-Wheelers and Larger Vehicles (Cars, Buses, Trucks, etc.): ₹879
Breakdown of Costs (Excluding GST):
- Two- and Three-Wheelers: ₹219.9 for plates, ₹10.18 for snap locks, ₹50 for a third registration mark.
- Four-Wheelers and Larger Vehicles: ₹342.41 for plates, ₹10.18 for snap locks, ₹50 for a third registration mark.
GST Component:
- Two-Wheelers: ₹81
- Three-Wheelers: ₹90
- Four-Wheelers: ₹134.10
