PM Modi Apologises in Maharashtra After Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse, Says ‘He Is Our God’
PM Modi Expresses Regret Over Collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue in Maharashtra, FIR Registered Against Contractor
Palghar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday issued a heartfelt apology following the collapse of a 35-foot statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra. The statue, which was unveiled by PM Modi just eight months ago on December 4, 2023, came crashing down on August 26, sparking widespread concern and criticism across the state.
Addressing a gathering in Maharashtra’s Palghar, the Prime Minister expressed deep regret, emphasizing the cultural and historical significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name for us… today I bow my head and apologise to my god, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” PM Modi stated, visibly moved.
He further condemned those who, according to him, have shown disrespect towards the Maratha warrior king. “Our values are different. For us, nothing is bigger than our deity,” he added, assuring the public that such an incident should never have occurred.
In response to the incident, an FIR has been registered against the contractor responsible for the statue’s construction. The collapse of the statue has raised serious questions about the quality of the work and the oversight involved, given the importance of the monument.
The Prime Minister’s apology reflects the government’s recognition of the deep reverence in which Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is held by the people of Maharashtra, and the need to honor and preserve his legacy.
