Massive Crowds Flood Pune's Markets for Ganeshotsav Shopping, Leading to Traffic Gridlock; Reckless Driving and Parking Woes Add to the Mess

Pune : Ganeshotsav Shopping Frenzy in Pune Sparks Traffic Chaos; Indiscipline Worsens Jams

As the Ganeshotsav festival draws closer, Pune’s shopping areas witnessed an overwhelming rush over the weekend, causing significant traffic disruptions in the city’s central districts. The streets of Mandai, Bohri Ali in Ravivar Peth, and Tulshibagh were teeming with shoppers from early Saturday morning, leading to a massive traffic jam that was further exacerbated by reckless driving and parking indiscipline.

The holiday weekend, coupled with the festive season, saw citizens from both Pune and its suburbs flocking to these popular shopping areas. The heavy influx of vehicles created bottlenecks on key roads such as Bajirao Road and Shivaji Road, where the slow-moving traffic formed long queues, frustrating commuters and shoppers alike.

The situation was particularly dire in the Mandai and Narayan Peth areas, where the limited parking facilities were quickly overwhelmed. Many shoppers, hoping to enjoy a day of family shopping, found themselves stuck in gridlock as cars lined up along the streets, searching for scarce parking spots.

To manage the surge, the traffic police implemented additional measures in the affected areas. However, the sheer volume of vehicles, coupled with reckless driving behavior, made it difficult to ease the congestion. The police have urged citizens to consider parking their vehicles on riverside roads to alleviate the pressure in the central shopping districts.

Despite the chaos, the festive spirit remained high as citizens continued their preparations for Ganeshotsav, one of Pune’s most beloved and widely celebrated festivals.
