Pune Kharadi : Body Found in Kharadi Riverbed Identified, Siblings Arrested for Murder Over Property Dispute

Pune Kharadi : In a shocking turn of events, Pune police have cracked the gruesome murder case of a woman whose mutilated body was discovered in a riverbed in the Kharadi area last week. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Sakina Abdul Khan, was allegedly killed by her brother, Ashfaq Abdul Khan, and his wife, Hamida Khan, over a property dispute.

Sakina, a resident of Bhayyawadi, Shivajinagar, had been living with her brother and sister-in-law when the fatal altercation occurred. According to police reports, Ashfaq and Hamida strangled Sakina with a rope during a heated argument regarding the ownership of their family home. They later dismembered her body and disposed of it in the river on August 25.

The crime came to light when Sakina’s dismembered torso was found floating in the Kharadi riverbed on August 29. The police, initially struggling to identify the victim due to the absence of the head and limbs, launched a thorough investigation involving drone cameras and local fire brigade units. A reward of ₹2 lakh was announced for any information that could lead to the identification of the victim.

Sakina’s niece filed a missing person report at the Shivajinagar police station on August 30, leading investigators to focus on the family. Upon questioning, Ashfaq initially provided misleading information but eventually confessed to the murder when confronted with evidence.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Ranjan Kumar Sharma, confirmed the arrest of Ashfaq and Hamida during a press conference. He also revealed that a DNA test has been conducted to conclusively identify the remains as those of Sakina. Efforts are ongoing to recover the missing body parts.

The police, under the leadership of Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Sharma, have detained the suspects for further questioning. Authorities are now focused on gathering additional evidence and details about the crime.
