Pune Metro’s Phase II Plans Include Seven Routes Covering Key Areas Like Chandni Chowk, Wagholi, and Kharadi

The Pune Metro project is gearing up for an ambitious expansion as plans for Phase II were revealed during a comprehensive review conducted by Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Chandrakant Patil, on Wednesday. The minister inspected the construction work at the Mandai Metro Station, a critical part of the ongoing Phase I of the project, and discussed the blueprint for the next phase.

Current Progress of Phase I

During the review, Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of MahaMetro, provided an update on the 33-kilometer-long Phase I of the Pune Metro. He highlighted the ongoing construction in key sections, shared current passenger statistics, and outlined various initiatives to boost ridership.

The Phase I network has already started transforming Pune’s public transport landscape, offering residents an efficient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional modes of transportation.

Exciting Plans for Phase II

The proposed Phase II of the Pune Metro is set to connect more parts of the city with seven new routes, covering a combined distance of over 61 kilometers. These routes aim to bring metro services closer to suburban areas and emerging business hubs.

The routes awaiting central government approval include:

  1. Vanaz to Chandni Chowk (1.2 km): Two stations.
  2. Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (11.63 km): 11 stations.
  3. Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi (25.66 km): 22 stations.
  4. SNDT-Warje-Manikbagh (6.12 km): Six stations.

Additional routes under review by the Pune Municipal Corporation are:

  1. Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor (11.35 km): 10 stations.
  2. Hadapsar to Saswad (5.57 km): Four stations.

Impact of Phase II

The expansion is expected to:
