Pune Traffic Diversions Announced for Dahi Handi 2024: Major Roads Closed Post 5 PM

Traffic restrictions on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Laxmi Road, Bajirao Road, and Tilak Road for Dahi Handi celebrations; motorists advised to seek alternate routes.

Pune, August 27, 2024 — In anticipation of the Dahi Handi celebrations, Pune Traffic Police have implemented significant traffic diversions on key arterial roads to manage the expected influx of crowds. The changes will take effect from 5 PM today, Tuesday, August 27, and will continue until the conclusion of the festivities.

According to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende, traffic diversions will be in place on the following major roads:

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Road
  • Laxmi Road
  • Bajirao Road
  • Tilak Road

These roads will be partially or fully closed to traffic as crowd gatherings intensify, with vehicles being diverted to alternate routes. The specific changes include:

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Road: Closed from Lal Mahal Chowk to Gotiram Bhaiyya Chowk in Mandai.
  • Laxmi Road: Closed from Sonya Maruti Chowk to Seva Sadan Chowk.
  • Bajirao Road: Vehicles heading towards Shivajinagar from Puram Chowk will be diverted via Tilak Road.
  • Tilak Road: Vehicles heading towards Pune Municipal Corporation from Sa Go Barve Chowk will be rerouted via Jangli Maharaj Road and Jhansi Ki Rani Chowk.

Additionally, Budhwar Peth Chowk to Appa Balwant Chowk will operate as a one-way route, while vehicles moving from Appa Balwant Chowk towards Budhwar Chowk will be redirected via Bajirao Road.

Temporary closures are also in effect for:

  • Rameshwar Chowk to Shanipar Chowk in Mandai.
  • Daruwala Pool Chowk to Ganesh Road, Lal Mahal Chowk.

DCP Zende emphasized that these traffic arrangements are temporary and will be lifted once the Dahi Handi functions conclude. Citizens are advised to cooperate by following the traffic orders and using alternative routes to reach their destinations.

Motorists should plan their travel accordingly to avoid congestion and delays during the evening hours. The Pune Traffic Police urge the public to stay informed through local news channels and traffic updates.
