Upgrade at Pune Airport: 16 New Check-In Counters and Integrated Terminal Announced

Minister Muralidhar Mohol Unveils Expansion Plans Including Shopping Malls and Enhanced Passenger Facilities

Pune: In a significant development for air travelers in Pune, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol has announced the addition of 16 new check-in counters at the old terminal of Pune Airport. This move aims to expedite the check-in process and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. The expansion, which is set to be completed swiftly by the Airport Authority of India, promises to make air travel more convenient for Punekars.

Minister Mohol revealed that the arrival hall of the existing old terminal building will be converted into a new check-in area. This upgraded facility will be connected to the recently inaugurated integrated terminal building via a bridge, serving as an extended departure hall. To ensure security, the new check-in area will be equipped with Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) and X-ray machines.

Additionally, the integrated airport system will be further enhanced with the introduction of shopping malls within the terminal. An investment of ₹25 crore is expected for this project, which will add 4,000 square meters of usable space at the airport.

The ambitious upgrade is scheduled to be completed by March 2025, further boosting Pune Airport’s capacity. The new terminal, operational since July 14 this year, currently houses 34 check-in counters and can accommodate 3,000 passengers during peak hours. The addition of 16 check-in counters at the old terminal will bring much-needed relief to passengers, significantly reducing wait times and streamlining the check-in process.

This announcement marks a major step forward in improving Pune’s air travel infrastructure, ensuring that the city’s airport meets the growing demand of its passengers.
